Directors Notes

In reflection I realize how important a role encouragement has played in my life.  Encouragement from instructors, my family, friends, and students.  I hope that when people come to Synergy and MMSPA, they will find that encouragement and help in becoming who God intends them to be.   I hope that all of us involved at Synergy, whether we are instructors, parents, students or visitors, choose to encourage others and help build others characters.  Constructive criticism can be a very helpful tool in learning as long as it is done out of love and interest for that person.

I also realize how powerful the arts can be in communicating and affecting the world.  Think of how music, drama, and dance has affected you from time to time throughout your life.  How has it made you feel, did it leave a memorable impression with you?  The next time you listen to a song or watch a movie, I challenge you to really examine the message that it is sending.  Art is a form of legacy and it's up to us as artists to determine what kind of message we want to leave behind.  We have to live in the real world and art is a reflection of that world but we can strive to improve upon it also one student at a time, one song at a time, one dance at a time, one word of encouragement at a time.

In 20 years I hope people will look back on their experiences at Synergy with fond memories and a feeling of accomplishment.  Most of all I hope they will feel like they are better off because of their experiences there.
